Writers Should Fight for The Existence of Their Local Bookstore

December 28, 2006 By: leslie Category: Banned Books, Community, Events, Links No Comments →

Don't let your local independent bookstore be closed by fierce competition from bigger box stores and the internet.  Help them stay open!  Remember: You have more chance of exposure as an end-list and mid-list print author when an independent promotes your work.  I believe the independents can stay open if they create a real internet presence, consider adding ebooks to their lists and band together to buy in bulk and get the discounts the big box stores do so they can help their customers save money. It is a hard road, but I hate to see personal knowledge, service and customer care go the way of the dodo bird and give way to generai, bland prose not worth reading, leaving us with no alternatives as readers or writers.
